What makes a good cup of tea?
All of the ingredients – the tea leaves, the water, the fire to heat the water, the cup and the making of the cup, the patience to let the tea brew, the time and space to enjoy the flavors.
Take even just one of those ingredients – the water. Where has it come from – the ocean, formed into clouds by the sun, driven by the winds, falling on the mountains, each drop coming together in streams and rivers. So, the making of a cup of tea is not just in the kitchen, it is part of the great circle of life.
And now I feel a sense of sadness. How often, when I drink my cup of tea, do I think of how the tea leaves have come to me.
